The Bahrain world trade centre will become the first building in the world to integrate large-scale wind turbines to the design of a commercial building. The project tries to harness wind power through three giant wind turbines to generate electricity. These turbines, each measuring 29m in diameter, are support by bridges that span the two triangular shaped towers.

The well-known multi disciplinary consultancy firm Atkins has designed the building. The design utilizes airflow dynamics supported by the aerodynamic shape of the two towers to funnel in the breeze to operate the turbines. The experts say the project will generate approximate 11-15% of the required electricity consumption for the building. With the continuous movement of the turbines, the towers are certain to become a dynamic landmark within the Bahrain skyline.
