Project Overview
The Department of Muslim Cultural and Religious Affairs in Sri Lanka has identified the necessity of a centre in Sri Lanka to teach and exhibit Islamic art.
The primary objective of this is to broaden the awareness of Sri Lankans on Islamic art and culture.
Client: The Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs, Sri Lanka.
Objectives: “Make Sri Lankans aware on Islamic art and culture.”
Broaden the awareness of Muslim youth on Islamic art and use Islamic art to attract and merge people coming from different religious backgrounds.
Widen the understanding on Islamic culture among other religious communities and create opportunities for exchange of ideas and thoughts.
Location: Slave Island, Colombo 02. Western Province, Sri Lanka
Concept: The architecture is created by using fundamental principles of Islamic architecture and Islamic art.
The first principle: the orientation of mosques towards the direction of Mecca.
