The third CPD for the Session 2011/2012 focussed on a changing trend in the building industry and the role of the architect. There is currently a change in focus in buildings and building projects. The focus is not on iconic landmarks but on buildings as functionally streamlined, engineered products. The traditional role of ‘Architect the Designer’, should expand to include not only initiative and leadership but also a working knowledge of all aspects of building technology, cost management and material use.

“Are architects geared to extend their role into Project Management and Innovative Procurement Systems or continue to play the traditional role of Architect the Designer?” was one of the questions addressed.

The speakers were Archt. Plnr. Deshabandu Surath Wickramasinghe, FIA (SL), Archt. Milroy Perera FIA (SL) & Arosha Perera AIA (SL), Archt. Jayantha Perera FIA (SL) and Archt. Russell Dandeniya AIA (SL).
