The 30th Annual Session of the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects was themed  “Regenerating Sri Lanka – the architect and the built environment”.

The Session was ceremonially inaugurated amidst a large gathering of leading political dignitaries as well as professionals both local and foreign and a large number of Members and well wishers. The highlights of the event were Past President Archt. (Dr.) Locana Gunaratna being felicitated for his extensive services to the profession by being inducted as an Honorary Fellow Member, the presentation of scrolls to the newly elected members and the presentation of awards of excellence in the field of architecture to members of SLIA. These awards recognised exceptional design abilities, use of colour and honoured outstanding design in various categories of construction. In addition, product awards were presented to the best locally manufactured items.

The National Conference on architecture was also held on the same theme and the Keynote Speaker was Prof Jan Gehl from Denmark, an expert in creating and renewing urban spaces in cities around the world. The ARCHITECT 2012, Exhibition of Architects’ Work and Trade is an expositionof Architects’ creativity and also the building trade, which showcased the gamut of building material available currently in the local market.

Every session makes important contributions which are of importance to the policy makers and also encourages the local entrepreneurs who manufacture building products and catches the interest of the public at large.
