Changing Shape of Kandy – the Architect’s Vision” was the theme of the Regional Event in Kandy organized by The Sri Lanka Institute of Architects (SLIA) in collaboration with its Kandy Chapter. It comprised a forum on the theme held at the Queens hotel on 21st September which was graced by the Governor of the Central Province Hon. Tikiri Kobbekaduwa as Chief Guest and the First Citizen of Kandy Hon. Mahendra Ratwatte as the Guest of Honour. The deliberations were on the development of a city which bears historical and religious and political significance while ensuring the preservation of its cultural, architectural and aesthetic heritage.

The Exhibition of Architects’ Work and the Trade which went on at the Kandy City Centre from 21st to 23rd September featured a selection of Architect’s work and the trade. The exhibition was an opportunity to get a first hand impression of current design trends and also a selection of innovative products available in the local market.

The launch of the Building Performance Index was a point of interest at the Forum. The building Performance Index stipulates the criteria for the evaluation of the performance and sustainability of a building. It could be used as a tool for the valuation of a building, to provide a guidance on rents and also provide directions on renovations and improvements needed.
