The most prestigious architectural award in Britain, the RIBA Stirling prize for 2007 was won by David Chipperfield for the Museum of Modern Literature in Germany. The RIBA Sterling prize is given for the RIBA building of the year and the event is run in association with the Architect Journal .The prize is named after the renowned British architect James Stirling.

The award winning museum is located in a scenic park on top of a rock plateau overlooking a river. Embedded to the topography, the volume of the new museum reveals different elevations depending on the context. By utilizing the steep slope of the site, terraces allow for the creation of very different characters. A clearly defined material concept gives the calm rational architectural language a sensual physical presence. The judges praised the building as rich and restrained.
